- Version de la méthode
- Contemporary 100-times-molar-ratio Free Androgen Index arithmetic v1: FAI = 100 × total testosterone (nmol/L) / sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG, nmol/L); both inputs must be paired final quantitative results with verified analyte, unit, specimen-matrix, and assay-method identities; raw dimensionless output only; no numeric result when SHBG is below 30 nmol/L
- Population
- Clinician-directed androgen-excess evaluation in adults from the female source population, using paired final quantitative total-testosterone and SHBG results from the same patient and assessment, both reported in nmol/L, after independently verifying exact analyte identities, matching serum or plasma specimen matrices, laboratory methods and their validation status, and applicability of the historical ratio and contemporary analytical guidance. Total testosterone is preferably measured by validated LC-MS/MS; SHBG is commonly measured by a validated two-site immunoassay. SHBG must be at least 30 nmol/L.
- Limites et exclusions
- Adult-male use; pediatric or adolescent use; androgen-deficiency evaluation; testosterone-treatment monitoring; pregnancy-specific interpretation; or automatic extrapolation outside clinician-directed androgen-excess evaluation in adults from the female source population. · SHBG below 30 nmol/L; unpaired results; results from different patients or assessments; mismatched serum and plasma matrices; censored or nonquantitative values; unsupported or inferred units; or unverified analyte, specimen, assay-method, or method-validation identity. · Substitution of free or bioavailable testosterone, DHEA, DHEAS, DHT, androstenedione, another androgen, or a calculated or estimated value for measured total testosterone; relabeling the index as a free-testosterone concentration or as percent free testosterone. · Reference intervals, universal or population-specific cutoffs, result categories, normal or abnormal labels, diagnosis or exclusion of androgen excess, PCOS, an androgen-secreting tumour, or another disorder, probability or prognosis, treatment monitoring, management, or any treatment recommendation.
